Faith for the New Year

Looking Back: Thanksgiving

“For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God” (2 Cor. 4:15)

Personal Blessing—What has the Lord done in your life recently?
– Victory over sin and freedom from bondage?
– Sustaining you through seasons of trials?
– Fresh experiences of the presence of His Spirit?
– Financial provision or physical healing?
Corporate Blessing—What has the Lord done in our church?
– Leading many visitors to attend on Sundays
– Redeeming the lost through Alpha & outreach ministries
– Discipling of new believers and maturing the saints
– Growing us in the unity of the faith

Looking Forward: Faith

– Experiencing the year of the Lord’s favor (Luke 4:19)
– Re-envisioning & renewal for the various ministries of the church
– 2016 to be a year of Kingdom-minded, self-sacrificing, Gospel-centered, risk-taking growth in LCC for the glory of God
– Youth Winter Retreat (Jan. 1-3) & Men’s Retreat (Jan. 29-31)

December: Faith

Morning Meditation Psalm: Psalm 29
Song: “Let Your Kingdom Come”

Praying for Everyone

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

“Big general prayers become powerful when they are filled up with concrete, radical Biblical goals for the people we are praying for” —John Piper

Pray for…. (some examples)

– Homeless & neglected in the city to find rest in Jesus Christ (Matt. 11:28)
– Missionaries in foreign countries to rejoice in tribulation (James 1:1-4)
– New Orleans business owners and employees to treasure Jesus Christ as precious (1 Peter 2:4)
– Those in governmental authority to be gifted with wisdom and peace that leads them to the gospel (1 Tim. 2:2)
– “All of the saints” (Eph. 6:18) to be guarded from the enemy, preserved in doctrinal purity, and matured into Christ’s image for God’s glory

December

Morning Meditation Psalm: Psalm 47
Song: “Blessed Be Your Name”

Open Prayer Time

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
(Hebrews 4:16)

Pray for whatever the Lord lays on your heart. Here are some things to consider:

-Open House Sunday
-Whatever needs in the body you are aware of
-God’s work through the various ministries in our church
-Christmas Musical
-Holiday season—opportunities for mission and care
-Issues of crisis in our nation and world
-The global church

-Those who have begun to attend to sense a calling here and join in membership
-That we would effectively connect with newcomers

Growing Deep:
-We would be a community characterized by discipleship
-Covenant Group ministry would flourish as a means of growth
-Training up and maturing of new leaders
-We would be a church filled with people who are hungry for the Word, fervent in prayer, and committed to the local church
